What's Inside
Volume Two · 5710–5711 / 1950–1951
A New Kind of Igros Kodesh
Throughout his decades of leadership, the Rebbe maintained a vast personal correspondence. Thousands of people — from across the Jewish world and beyond — wrote to him with questions of Jewish law and practice, requests for blessings, personal dilemmas, communal challenges, and matters of faith. The Rebbe responded to each one.
The project of publishing this correspondence (Igros Kodesh) began in the 1980s with the Hebrew and Yiddish letters, and now spans well over thirty volumes. It was noted then that the English letters would be published separately. This series is that effort.
These letters are not translations. They were written by the Rebbe in English, addressed to English-speaking individuals and organizations around the world — lawyers, senators, soldiers, college students, widows, communal leaders, and seekers of every kind. They reveal a spiritual leader engaging with the full range of modern life, in his correspondents' own language.
This inaugural volume is published as Volume Two of the series, covering the years 5710–5711 (1950–1951). Volume One, covering the earlier years, will follow.
